Care, Operation and Storage Tips for Your Atomic Watch
If you are seeking the most accurate personal timekeeping, consider purchasing an atomic watch. These timepieces are known to be the most punctual devices a person can own. Atomic watches are perfect for individuals interested in the amazing capabilities of atomic timekeeping and are engineered for both men and women. Before buying an atomic watch, it is important to understand how they perform.

Like a home television, atomic watches operate on a similar basis in that they receive signals. The watch has a built in antenna which allows it to receive radio frequencies specific to a geographical region. For citizens residing in the United States, watches receive their signals from the atomic clock located in Ft. Collins, Colorado. This frequency has a range just over 1800 miles and is accessible to most watch owners residing in the continental United States.

Atomic watches purchased in the United States are only atomically updated while in a valid reception area. There are other atomic clocks located worldwide but each watch is only able to receive the transmission from a specific clock’s frequency. Moreover, if traveling to another time zone while in the States, an atomic watch will need to be manually set to the new time; as atomic clocks do not recognize time zone travel. Manual adjustments will also need to be made if traveling outside of the continental United States, as the watch will be operating using a quartz function. Quartz functions are also suggested for using an atomic watch in locations unable to receive automatic updates due to distance or interference. Be sure your watch has a working, installed battery in order to use this alternate timekeeping method. Upon returning to an area where updates are possible, the atomic watch will need to be manually set again and should resume regular atomic time.

The atomic watch’s timekeeping is programmed by default to self update every night. Similar to say a G-shock watch, an atomic watch can also be updated manually anytime to verify correct atomic time. One of the best benefits of having an atomic watch is the ability to receive automatic updates. Adjustments to daylight savings time occur without worry and happen when the automatic time clock recognizes the change. Additionally, leap year calendar changes are automatically programmed for watches featuring both date and time capabilities.

Requiring little maintenance, there are times when atomic watches need to be serviced. Atomic watches come either as solar powered or battery operated devices. Should a battery need to be changed, the atomic watch will need to be manually reset after every battery change in order to include time zone location. An atomic watch will also need to be manually reset if working in certain occupations in close proximity to power lines, electrical wires or industrial electronics devices. If working in this type of job, it may be wise to switch from the atomic function to the quartz function in order to use the watch as a timepiece.

When not in use, atomic watches need special precautions to ensure accurate performance. Watches need to be stored in an area where they are able to receive nightly signal updates. Storage locations like safes, fireproof boxes and highly insulated rooms may inhibit the ability of the atomic watch to receive transmission. Likewise, when removed, atomic watches should not be placed on or near any electronic devices, as this can also disrupt reception. When in doubt, manually resetting of the atomic watch can ensure accurate timekeeping is being observed.

By owning an atomic watch, you will always be guaranteed to have the most accurate time of anyone in a room. For the most effective timekeeping, purchase an atomic watch with both date and time capabilities, as well as one that is able to operate using a quartz function.
